Every website needs a web domain. A website domain is a user-friendly, unique address that people type in to find your website online. For example, in the address www.tradifyhq.com (our ‘hostname’), the web domain name is made up of ‘tradifyhq’ and the second part of the web domain, after the full stop, ‘com’. A website, by comparison, is the pages that are shown to users. The domain name should be an easy-to-remember text alternative to the IP address, which is just a string of numbers.
Make sure your web domain name is easy to remember, spelt correctly and is connected to your business. Ideally, your web domain name should be the same, or similar to, your business name. This will make it easy for customers to find your business!
If you’ve built your website with our Instant Website feature, you’ll get your domain name free and it will look like www.[your business name].tradehq.com. If you’d like to have a custom domain name, you can.
Here’s how.
A web domain host provides a domain name so people know how to find you. They ‘host’ your domain name on their servers. There are many to choose from, but some popular and lower costs hosts are GoDaddy, Google Domains, and Hover.
On your chosen host website, enter your desired domain name, and if it’s available, add it to your cart, pay and the domain name is yours! You’ll pay a monthly or annual fee to the web domain host to keep ownership of your custom name.
If you’ve used Tradify’s Instant Website feature, we’ll help connect your domain name to your new website for you. If you use a different hosting or website service (like Squarespace, Wix, or WordPress), you’ll need to check with their support team.
